BBC bus comes to Hackney

Hackney is the first stop on the BBC's Olympics host borough 2012 Roadshow when BBC London 94.9 brings the big red radio bus to Ridley Road Market, Dalston, Thursday 19-Saturday 21 May. The bus is visiting Hackney first out of the host boroughs to find out what local people think about the Olympics.

The visit will include a number of live broadcasts from the market, including the Eddie Nestor, Robert Elms and Gary Crowley shows, and the BBC is inviting residents and local celebrities to share their thoughts on the Olympics.

Hackney Council is hosting wheelchair sports and Personal Bests athletic competitions, and entertainment will be provided by local steel band Nostalgia. Visitors will also have the chance to win BBC goody bags if they take part in the Personal Bests sports, which include boccia and speed jumps.

Mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe said:

"As an Olympics host borough, we are keen to showcase the many improvements taking place in Hackney, such as our significant investment in Dalston Junction, including £1m which has been injected into the market.

"We also want to make sure that residents know what benefits are available for them leading up to, during and after the 2012 Games."

Ridley Road is easily accessible via the two Overground stations at Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland. These transport improvements are part of a major multi-million pound development for Dalston which will be an important transport hub and visitor destination at Games time.
