2012 Games FAQs

When will the London Olympic and Paralympic Games take place in 2012?

  • Olympic Games, 27 July – 12 August
  • Paralympic Games, 29 August – 9 September

Where will tickets for events in 2012 be available from?

Tickets for both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games will be available from 2011, and subject to availability remain on sale until the start of every event.

The London Organising Committee for 2012 (LOCOG) has not yet announced details of how to purchase tickets.

7.7 million tickets will be available for the London Olympic Games, with another 1.5 million for the Paralympic Games.

LOCOG is aiming to repeat the success of the Manchester Commonwealth Games where 90 per cent of the seats were sold.

Each ticket sold will include free travel in London to the event on the day it takes place to encourage the use of public transport.

Some events will be free to watch such as Road Cycling, Triathlon and Marathon.  These events take place in the streets of London, where spectators can line the route.

Will local people be given any preference for tickets?

LOCOG is responsible for the ticket policy.  LOCOG has stated a commitment to ensuring tickets are affordable and the venues full; however, LOCOG has no plans at present for free tickets.

Some venues in Beijing where not full, how will London 2012 be different?

LOCOG is aiming to give as many people as possible the chance to attend the Games – ensuring a great atmosphere for all the events.

To achieve this, LOCOG has said that tickets will be priced fairly and London will aim to repeat the success of the Manchester Commonwealth Games, where 90 per cent of seats were sold.
