The Olympic Park

The future of the Olympic Park

After the 2012 Games the Olympic Park will be transformed into a series of neighbourhoods set around a major new park, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Each neighbourhood will have new homes and community facilities such as schools, health centres, shops and cafes.

Much of the new park will be in Hackney, re-providing green space which was used to deliver the Games. The park will provide a variety of landscapes and recreational spaces with new connections to Hackney Marshes and the established community of Hackney Wick. It will also allow extensive public access to the River Lea and Lea Navigation canal. The retained venues situated around the edge of the park - including the multi use arena in Hackney, the velodrome, stadium and aquatics centre - will re-open for use by the community for sports, events and cultural activities. The 2012 Press and Broadcast Centres in Hackney will become a major location for employment and business, with the Council's vision for these buildings being a centre for creative, media and digital industries.

Have your say - Legacy Communities Scheme

Hackney residents are invited to comment on a planning application for the Legacy Communities Scheme, which will shape the future of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the 2012 Games.

The planning application, which outlines the plans for the five new neighbourhoods around the park, including the Hackney neighbourhood of East Wick, was submitted by the Olympic Park Legacy Company in early October.  The Planning Decisions Team at the Olympic Delivery Authority is undertaking a statutory consultation on the application between 5 October and 14 November. The planning decision will be delivered next summer.

For more information about the OPLC's plans for the Park and Hackney's new neighbourhood, visit the Legacy Company website.
