Hackney Hosts 2012 Volunteering Programme
Hackney residents are currently being recruited as Hackney Hosts to provide volunteer support to 2012-related activities within the borough, and to help promote the Olympic and Paralympic Games within their own communities.
You can give as little or as much time as you like at events and activities taking place throughout the borough, gaining valuable skills and experience, meeting new people and finding out more about the 2012 Games and how they will affect Hackney's communities. Hosts will be given the opportunity to use volunteering as a stepping stone into further training or employment
You will receive free training, including accredited first aid training, and will be supported to find work, in the process becoming involved in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Some Hackney Hosts will become 2012 Champions, helping to promote the ethos of the Games and Games-related activities within their own communities.
Of particular interest to the scheme, which is run jointly by Hackney Council's 2012 unit and the regeneration charity, Peabody, are Hackney residents who are unemployed, have not volunteered before, are living with disabilities, or are from ethnic minority and migrant communities. To find out what becoming a Hackney Host means to a volunteer, see the Hackney Hosts case study.
Hackney Hosts will form part of the community of volunteers to support the exciting 2012-related activities taking place in Hackney during the 2012 Games but will not be guaranteed a place as one of the official 2012 volunteers known as Games Makers. See the London 2012 website for more information.
