Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassadors

The Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassadors are a group of young people from across the borough who are closely involved in the Games. A Youth Selection event for Hackney's Youth Ambassadors and the London 2012 Young Games Maker programme takes place at Hackney Town Hall on 28 October. The full programme for the event and a Youth Ambassadors application form is available to download below:
Youth Ambassadors come from a wide range of backgrounds and are aged between 13 and 19. They have been learning about different aspects of 2012 including the changes that are happening in the built environment. They have studied:
The 2012 Games site and what it means for Hackney
- Olympic and Paralympic history, including the Cultural Olympiad
- Today's Paralympics
- The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- Equal opportunities
- Presentation and communication skills
- Events management
Part of their role is to share information and activities with their peers, which they have done through a series of events. They have spoken to members of the International Olympic Committee and other young people at the House of Lords. They have spread the Hackney Personal Bests programme to youth clubs and represented Hackney on the Legacy Now Youth Panel, a group of young people dedicated to making sure that the changes coming to London work out for the benefit of young people.
"We've been taken on a tour of the Olympic Park site and saw the main stadium taking shape. I'm very excited about the Games and want to be a volunteer so I can help the athletes."
Hackney Ambassador - Rose Nwosu, 15, Stoke Newington
