About Electoral Services
Electoral Services ensures that the democratic processes for the authority is managed in accordance with the law. They are responsible for:
- Maintaining the Electoral Register
- Running elections and referendums e.g. Mayoral, Council, GLA and European elections
- Encouraging people to join the democratic process.
An annual canvass is conducted between September and November every year.
Canvass forms are sent out to 100,000 addresses containing the details of around 148,000 electors.
Reminders are then sent out, after which canvassers will visit those households that have not returned their forms.
