Animal nuisance
Below you will find information about nuisance problems caused by animals, and what Hackney Council can do to help.
Barking dogs
A constantly barking or whining dog can be disturbing for you and/or your neighbours.
In law, a barking dog can be considered a noise nuisance and its owner can be taken to court and fined if they do nothing to stop it.
If you have a problem with dog barking complaints, please contact our Pollution Control team.

Dog and animal fouling
Dog or animal mess is unhealthy, anti-social and unpleasant. It is an offence not to clean up after your dog has fouled, and you could be given a £75 fixed penalty notice if you don't.
Animal mess is also linked to a number of diseases. For example, Toxocara is a roundworm found in dogs and its eggs get left behind in the dog's mess. The eggs can stay alive in the soil for many years and if children come into contact with them, they may get an upset stomach, sore throat or asthma and in rare cases, go blind.
To reduce the chances of this happening, regularly de-worm your dog and remove its mess.
To complain about dog fouling please contact our Environmental Enforcement team.
