June 07
- The 2012 Manifesto is launched by Mayor Jules Pipe, calling for a commitment to deliver a lasting Olympic legacy for Hackney.
- Hackney Service Centre extends its opening hours to 8am to 8pm on weekdays and Saturday mornings.
July 07
- The Council retains its Investor in People accreditation.
- Springfield Park and Hackney Downs are awarded Green Flags, bringing the total number of green flag parks in Hackney to four.
- The Council wins the top prize at the Transport for London 'Sustainable Transport Awards' for innovation and commitment to promoting cleaner and healthier ways of travelling.
August 07
- Fifty three percent of Hackney students achieve 5 good GCSE grades, as compared to less than one-third in 2002.
September 07
- A new building at 2 Hillman Street opens, offering a new cashiers service.
- The Petchey Academy moves to a new state of the art building and the Bridge Academy opens its doors to its first intake of students.
- The Recreation and Environmental Action Programme (REAP) allocates £820,000 to improve open green spaces in Hackney close to the Olympic and Paralympic site.
- A new virtual school for looked after children is created.

- Five Hackney schools are praised as outstanding by Ofsted: St Mary’s CE Primary, Millfields Primary, Yesodey Hatorah and Mossbourne secondary schools and Wentworth Nursery school.
- The Revenues and Benefits service wins two national awards for service transformation, and most improved team of the year.
November 07
- Hackney wins the Mayor of London's Green Procurement Code Awards.
- Hackney is selected as a national pilot for a project working with young people at risk of custody.
- Hackney Council exceeds its statutory recycling target of 20%, extending the range of materials which can be recycled and introducing compulsory recycling to all street based properties.
December 07
- Voter registration in the borough increases to 82% following a high profile registration campaign.
- The Commission for Social Care Inspection rates Hackney’s Adult Social Services as good.
- Clissold Leisure Centre reopens after a 4-year closure and London Fields Lido welcomes its 100,000th visitor.
January 08
- A second Purple Bus is launched by Youth Services, offering IT support and training to young people.
- The Stonewall Index rates Hackney one of the top 100 gay-friendly employers.
February 08
- Fourteen carers attend an innovative Carer's Retreat and 39 carers benefit from a new Carer’s training programme.
- Ofsted inspections grade Hackney’s fostering and private fostering service as good and the health of looked after children as outstanding.
- The Olympic 'Personal Best' programme is rolled out across 9 schools in the borough, with 450 pupils taking part.
- Hackney Council’s Customer Services is awarded a Charter Mark.
- Hackney pledges its commitment to tackling climate change by signing the Nottingham Declaration, based on practical measures to reduce the Council’s carbon footprint.
- A major regeneration project is launched in Dalston.
- The Youth Sports Fund gives 22 grants to individuals and 6 grants to organisations through its first round of awards.
- Hackney achieves 3 star 'improving strongly' rating – recognising us as one of the most improved councils in the country.
March 08
- The Council freezes the Hackney element of the Council Tax for the third year running.January 08
- Police Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, opens the UK's first joint Safer Neighbourhood Office, staffed by Police and Council officers, in Orsman Road, Shoreditch.
- The performance of Hackney's Adoption service improves substantially for the fourth consecutive year.
- Outcomes which record the progress of young people in their lives whilst engaged with the Youth Service have more than doubled, whilst the number of young people achieving accreditations rose by 30%.
- A new bridge is installed for the East London Line extension in Shoreditch. The line, with four new stations, will open in 2010.
- The Hackney Ark centre opens, integrating the services and support available to disabled children.
- An Olympic ‘Get Set Hackney’ employment and information event is attended by over 3,000 people and hundreds of residents sign up for local jobs and training opportunities.
April 08
- Hackney is a short-listed finalist for the prestigious 'Best Achieving Council' award by local government magazine, Municipal Journal.
- A new telephone translation service is launched to help customers who do not speak English as their first language to access Council services.
- Crime in Hackney falls 34% since 2004, the fastest fall in London.
- Britannia Leisure Centre, London Fields Lido and Kings Hall Leisure Centre win national Quest accreditation.
