Information for teachers

In March 2008 Hackney Archives developed a resource pack in conjunction with Stoke Newington School as part of the ‘Exploring Citizenship’ Programme funded by MLA London. The resource focuses on the particular area around the school, looking at how maps, photographs and directories can be used as historical evidence, and is aimed at Keystage 3 students. An electronic version of this pack can be downloaded from the right this page.

In addition to the main search room, we have a separate room which can accommodate class visits to the Archives of up to 30 pupils, to allow them to look at original records. These can be arranged on request - contact the Archives to speak to a member of staff (see contact details on the right).

Teachers are welcome to visit the Archives during our regular opening hours (see Visiting Hackney Archives page), or to contact us by telephone or email, for general advice on the sources which are available for researching different aspects of local history. We are also happy to work with teachers to develop resource packs on different topics.
