Green space and biodiversity funding
There are a number of grant bodies who are keen to fund user groups and community organisations who are working on wildlife or green space projects.
Types of funding
Funding pots are sometimes available for groups working on projects to improve their local environment or create areas for nature. There are a huge number of funding bodies out there but we have listed some useful links here to get you started -
London Biodiversity Partnership
Although they do not provide grants themselves, they have a very useful page on 'funding for biodiversity' which lists most of the main grant providers. See London Biodiversity Partnership Funding Guidance.
Funding Central
A national database of over 4,000 grants and loans. See Funding Central.
Awards for All
Awards for All is a Lottery grants scheme funding small, local community-based projects in the UK. See Awards for All.
Hackney Council for Voluntary Service (HCVS)
HCVS is Hackney's leading voluntary and community sector support agency. They provide hundreds of local voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations with the key skills, knowledge and resources to respond to the needs of local people, especially those most in need. See HCVS.
Funding Guides
The Department of Communities and Local Government has released two new guides on how to improve greenspaces and how to attract funding: Potential Funding for Community Green Space and Get the Green Space you want.
Funding workshop
Hackney Council ran a free workshop on Biodiversity and Green Spaces Funding on Monday 18 July, 2011. 35 people attended, including representatives from park user groups, wildlife organisations and other local residents interested in green projects. The workshop included presentations about current funding streams available, tips for successful bids, and local case studies from groups who have successfully bid for funding. All of the presentations are available as downloads from the right this page.
