Re-registering a birth
When is a birth re-registration necessary?
A child’s birth needs to be re-registered if:
- the baby's father's details were not included in the original registration and the parents now wish to add them
- the parents have married each other since the birth.
Adding a father's details
If a father's details were not included in the original birth registration, they can be added later by re-registering the birth. The baby's surname can also be changed at this point, if both parents wish.
The first stage is to complete the application form, enclosing any necessary documentation. You can obtain this form as a download below, or by contacting the Registrar using the details to the right.
