Births - Historical Searches
Searches of birth indexes
It is normally possible for a registrar to search the birth indexes within a five year period if accurate details have been given of the birth registration. If a wider search is required you will need to make a personal search of the indexes, by appointment only.
General searches at a Superintendent Registrar's Office
If you wish to make a wider search, or do not have sufficient details, it is possible to arrange access to the indexes to the registers of births, marriages and deaths for a small fee. A certificate of any entry can then be obtained by completing an application form and paying an additional fee.
If you are uncertain whether a reference found in the indexes relates to the entry that you are searching for, the Superintendent Registrar can verify the details by referring to the register. Any additional information from the entry can only be made available in the form of a certificate.
