Special Educational Need Schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs)
Phase 3 of the BSF project will see the re-building or modernisation of Hackney's special schools (for children and young people with special educational needs) and pupil referral units (PRUs).
The programme will result in new schools that are large enough to respond to Hackney's increasing population and the predicted growth in numbers of children and young people with special educational needs. The new schools also need to have the facilities to help young people with challenging educational needs get the best possible education.
The BSF work programme compliments a proposed wider re-organisation of this sector of education in Hackney, which will deliver an overall structure fit for pupils with special educational needs, both now and in the future.
As a result, some schools may move to new sites, and all will benefit from improved access and facilities for their pupils. More information on the proposals for reorganisation is available from The Learning Trust's special schools consultation document (PDF, 400KB).
It is hoped that, by the end of the BSF programme in 2015, Hackney will have become a centre of excellence for this important branch of education for our children.
