Community Safety Team

The Community Safety Team is responsible for developing local activities to reduce crime and disorder. The team co-ordinates the development of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy, implementing the Strategy and its related Action Plan. It also supports the Safer Communities Partnership in commissioning, developing and managing projects and programmes to reduce crime and disorder.

Crime in Hackney fell by over 27% in the last three years (April 2007), and we have been the highest crime-reducing borough in London for the past two years. Hackney Council is committed to continuing this trend, and the budget for crime reduction services has increased steadily year on year, while working with various external partners to achieve our aims.

The Community Safety Team is based at Maurice Bishop House, with five sub-teams dealing with varying issues such as violent crime, anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood safety. Contact the Community Safety Team on 0208 356 2174.

On these pages you will find more information about the Safer Communities Partnership, and how you can help your community tackle crime.
