Confucius Says.....to use one’s creativity is to have fun
Saturday 28 June, 1 - 4pm
Hackney Music Development Trust presents an art workshop for children aged 5+ to try their hand at some Chinese art and design including fan making, headdresses and Chinese lanterns.
Confucius Says is the culmination of a year-long project involving HMDT and 9 Hackney schools to create a new opera about China which will be performed on 3-4 July, 7.30pm at the Hackney Empire.
Marzipan Sporting Heroes

Join our sweet making session with a twist. Create sporting heroes out of marzipan and make a running track, football pitch or even a swimming pool to take them home in.

Hackney Museum Summer Challenge – Beat your Sporting Best

What’s your long jump record? How far can you triple jump? Ever tried Boccia? Discover all this and more by taking part in the Hackney Museum Summer Challenge. It’s the taking part that counts, so bring your whole family along and join in the fun.
Create a giant wall hanging
Over a 3 week period come and be inspired by the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and contribute to our giant wall hanging. Use the different workshops to create pieces of art on the themes 1908 or 1948 Olympics and your sporting heroes. Try your hand at drawing, painting and collage techniques, with artist Jonathan Boast.

Feature Writing workshops: Getting it done! From Idea to First Draft
Saturday 5 July and Saturday 19 July, 10.30pm-4.30pm
Words of Colour, presents a two-day workshop which will allow you to develop your idea into a first draft feature with a publication in mind. Areas covered include how to write an effective introduction, target audiences, structure, research, interviewing and selling your feature. The workshop facilitator is Joy Francis (PRIDE, Guardian, The Big Issue, Channel 4 online). Only eight places available so book early!
Price: £55 per workshop (£45 concessions) includes lunch, pack and feedback to assignments.

Vibes and Voices
Thursday 7 August, 5-7.30pm
Use Hackney Museum for ideas for you creative writing, then bring your words alive. After the workshop this will be your chance to perform your poetry to a live audience, with the support of workshop leader and host Baden Prince, the organiser of east London's regular spoken word event SPEAKEASY. Workshop time 5-6.15pm performances start 7pm sharp.
Two Homes: Creative Writing Workshop

Calling all Hackney elder writers, this workshop will take you back in time on a personal journey. Bring in 2 objects which remind you of home. Your home in Hackney and the one you have left behind. Use these objects for inspiration and discussion for this creative writing workshop with poet, performer and writer Adisa.
