Releasing Evidence
CCTV cameras are installed throughout the borough in order to protect residents and assist in the prevention and prosecution of crime and anti-social behaviour.
However, they are regarded by some as a gross infringement of personal liberty.
The Council is committed to the belief that everyone has the right to respect for his or her private and family life. Cameras are carefully positioned to respect the privacy of the public, and will not overlook any areas where privacy is expected.
There are strict guidelines, in accordance with the data protection act, as to who may request to view data – including individuals wishing to view their own personal data (a fee is charged for this service).
All requests for the release of data must be channelled through the data controller at the address on the right.
