Clissold Park and House Restoration Project
Hackney's ambitious project to develop Clissold Park and restore Clissold House is now complete; the café is now open to the public and our beautiful function rooms are available for bookings. Viewings and bookings are by appointment only; please see the Clissold House page for more information.
The Council and the Heritage and Big Lottery Funds have invested £8.9 million in the project, which has restored the House to it's former glory. The project brings back original design features, some of which were changed over the years.
Clissold House now boasts a new café, beautifully restored function rooms and smaller meeting rooms for private hire and community use.
Free guided tours will be offered throughout January and February 2012. For more information please contact the Events Team using the contact details on the Clissold House page.
Improvements to the Park
Located next to Clissold House, the new play area includes a variety of features to appeal to children of all ages.
The new wheels park offers facilities for skaters and BMXers of all levels and abilities and the new multi-use games area for five-a-side football and basketball, alongside the built-in table tennis table, make this a great area for an array of sport and play activities.
The project has included works to create new and renovated animal enclosures and a butterfly dome. We have worked closely with veterinary experts to ensure the new enclosures meet high standards of animal welfare and security. The animals are regularly monitored by our staff and veterinary experts to ensure their ongoing welfare and comfort.
The old bowls pavilion has been refurbished and, alongside the outdoor classroom, will provide a valuable education and community resource. The Park's two lakes and New River have been landscaped, desilted and have undergone structural improvement work. Two new ornamental bridges, a pond dipping platform and a water pumping system to maintain water quality have been added, alongside other works to improve the park.
