User Guide: Advanced Search
The Advanced Search facility gives you more control over your search criteria than the Quick Search. Users can choose from a number of options:
Who?: This searches within the name of an organisation and for any AKA names for the group or (note you can't search for both Who? and What? at the same time)
What?: This searches within the names of the key subject listings as well as through the Subject AKA listing
Where?: This gives people the facility to search for organisations in a specific geographical area. Options available here include
Street search - this looks for services situated on a specific road or street, or
Borough search - this looks for services physically located within a local borough (options available include Any Borough, City of London or Hackney), or
Ward search - this looks for services based within a particular electoral ward in Hackney, or
Postcode search - this looks for services based within a particular local postcode prefix
Note: you can only use one of the above geographical searches at a time.
Language: you can refine your search even further by selecting a particular community language spoken within that organisation. Please note that as many of the languages listed here are given by organisations on the basis of their having a member of staff from a particular community. NOTE: staff turnover and availability may mean that certain languages are only available at certain times or are no longer available at all - make sure you double-check this before visiting any organisation.
Access details: This ensures that only organisations who have provided public access details are displayed in the results. NOTE: this is only relevant if you intend to visit an organisation's premises. For example, some organisations without wheelchair access may still offer a service to people with disabilities via other means such as a helpline or website, or can arrange to hold meetings in accessible venues.
General tips:
The more you specify the less you'll get. If you have typed in a number of search categories and then changed you mind about what you want to search for, then use the RESET button to clear your original selections and start again.
