Tree Management

Trees are very important to improving our local environment. We have an extensive street trees planting programme. This year over 1,000 trees have been planted on streets across the borough.

Our parks and open spaces boast a wide variety of trees. Park trees make Hackney one of the greenest inner city boroughs.

Why do we need trees?

  • Trees filter the air and reduce pollution
  • Trees absorb noise, especially traffic noise
  • Trees convert carbon dioxide to oxygen for us to breathe and reduce the greenhouse effect
  • Trees provide varied habitats for wildlife especially important in urban areas
  • Trees provide shade to keep us cool in summer and protect against wind in bad weather
  • Trees make our environment more attractive adding shape and colour
  • Trees can increase property prices, valued added for a tree-lined street
  • Trees can relax us and help beat everyday stress
