Traffic calming
In 2006 the Council asked residents about plans to create a 20mph zone in the De Beauvoir area. During the consultation period the Council received feedback from residents proposing a road closure at the Southgate Road/Southgate Grove junction as an alternative to traffic calming.
Residents of Southgate Road and Ufton Road should have received a questionnaire about the two proposals.
For further details call: 020 8356 2897 or email: traffic.management@hackney.gov.uk. A consultation document is at: www.consultationfinder.com/hackney.
Greener Business
Do you run a business in Hackney? The Council is currently looking for opinions from business owners on recycling in the borough.
At the moment, businesses can benefit from glass collections, but must use private companies to recycle other types of waste.
The results of this survey will tell us the most practical way to help businesses recycle more and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
All businesses that respond will be entered in a prize draw for £50 Marks and Spencers vouchers.
The survey takes no longer than 10 minutes. Simply click the link on the Commercial Waste page.
Youth centres
Win an iPod shuffle and grab some free pizza at a series of youth consultation events.
The Council is planning to build four new youth centres or ‘hubs’ across the borough that will offer a range of services that are currently not available in one place.
If you are aged 13 to 19 and live in Hackney why not find out more and have your say on the project? There will open days on:
- Weds, 9 July; 6-7.30pm, Pedro Youth Club, 175 Rushmore Rd, E5
- Fri, 11 July; 6.30-8pm, Milton Gardens Estate Community Centre, Shakespeare Walk, N16
Park point of view?
If you love a stroll with the dog, a jog or a picnic, be sure to make your voice heard on design proposals for the restoration of Clissold Park and House.
The project is part of an £8.9million scheme jointly funded by Hackney Council and the Heritage Lottery fund.
Following an initial public consultation in 2006, a second round of opinions are being sought to refine the design plans. The Council is looking for the views on how Clissold House is used; designs for play and sports facilities; the extension of the New River; and renovation of the animal enclosures.

About Consultation in Hackney
The Council carries out up to 100 consultations each year. These cover different issues, from putting in a zebra crossing or controlled parking zone to writing a 10-year plan to improve opportunities for children and young people in the borough to a strategy for improving Hackney’s markets.
We have different ways of finding out your views and want to make it easy for you to tell us what you think. We might send you a questionnaire, write a feature in the Council’s newspaper Hackney Today, invite you along to an exhibition or hear from you at a public meeting. You might even see us at your local shopping centre or at an event in a park near you.
Search our online database of consultations to look for and respond to consultations by subject that you are interested in, the area you live in and register to receive regular updates.
