Dangerous Paving

Any hazard in the highway (road or pavement) caused as a result of an accident, damage or vandalism may be considered a risk to the public and could result in personal injury to pedestrians, road users or possible damage to property.

Streetworks, roadworks, skips, scaffolds, hoardings, advertising boards and building materials that block the pavement are all considered to be causing an obstruction to pedestrians.

  • Broken Paving Slab – this is not a cracked slab but one which is uneven and “rocking”
  • Uneven ironwork – these are items such as manhole lids and other utility services covers (BT, Gas, etc.) which have come loose from their surrounds and are “rocking”.
  • Overhanging vegetation and hedges
  • Tarmac disintegration – this could cause “potholes” to appear and uneven walkways
  • Weed contamination on busy footways.

Repairs are carried out usually within 14 working days, but this is dependent on the nature of the hazard found. If it is considerous dangerous it is usually repaired within 24 hours.
