2010 Hackney Design Awards
Winners announced
We are pleased to announce the winning schemes for 2010 Hackney Design Awards. The awards are run by Hackney Council every two years and illustrate the Council's commitment to the promotion and celebration of high quality design within the built environment.
A total of 55 nominations were received and 20 schemes were shortlisted. There are six winners and five commendations.

People's Choice Award
For the first time, we invited the people of Hackney to vote for their favourite scheme from the shortlist compiled by the Judging Panel. In total, 865 votes were cast and the winner received 215 votes.
Winner
Cheryl Day, Clapton Girls Technology College head teacher, said: "Winning the People's Choice Award is fantastic. It's an outstanding school and the buildings are just brilliant. We are really thankful to our architects Jestico + Whiles, builders Mansell, and of course Hackney Council and The Learning Trust."
The college was also praised by the judging panel for refurbishing its existing buildings and constructing two new buildings on the campus, creating a 'teaching environment of immense quality'.

Judging Panel
The Judging Panel was made up of professionals in architecture, urban design, development and regeneration. We would like to than the Judges for their lively contributions and for volunteering their professional expertise and their time to the 2010 Hackney Design Awards.
The judges were as follows:
