Hackney Design Awards 2012
We are pleased to announce the winning schemes for the 2012 Hackney Design Awards. The awards are run by Hackney Council every two years and illustrate the Council's commitment to the promotion and celebration of high quality design within the built environment.
A total of 50 nominations were received and 19 schemes were shortlisted. There were two winners and five commendations.

People's Choice Award
For the second time we have put the shortlist to the test of the community through the People's Choice Award. We received over 1,100 votes, around 25 percent more than in 2010.
This involvement from the community is a clear indication that the real winners of the Hackney Design Awards are the community who live, work or recreate in these amazing buildings and spaces.
This was a closely run race, but two schemes jumped ahead then fought a battle - constantly changing between winning and second in the last few days of voting. In the end Urswick School was the victor with the 2012 Handball Arena just a few votes behind. In recognition of this tightly run race we are awarding a winner and a runner-up.
The Judging Panel is made up of professionals in architecture, urban design, development and regeneration. The Council would like to thank the Judges for offering their time and contributing their professional expertise to the Hackney Design Awards 2012.
