Parking
We maintain and enforce controlled parking zones, issue and control parking permits, issue Penalty Charge Notices (parking tickets) and manage car parks as part of our parking services.
Our environment is a key concern to us. In addition to making Hackney safer, we want to make it cleaner and greener through reducing air pollution. Hackney was declared an air action zone in 2006, due to the high levels of pollution in the air. Since then, we have made a number of changes to our permit structure, including new pricing to discourage car use and vehicles which emit harmful gases.
A guide to Parking in Hackney and application forms can be found in downloads on the right. For information about permits and penalty charges, including information about how to pay, please see the pages on the left.
Online e-forms
There are now a range of electronic forms (e-forms), see Do it online on the right of this page.
Renewing a permit
It is your responsibility to renew your parking permit before it expires. You can renew your permit up to one calendar month before the expiry date if it is specific to one single vehicle (all residents’ permits are). You should read the terms and conditions on the permit application form before applying.
To renew your permit send us proof of address, insurance documents for your vehicle and vehicle registration document, along with your contact details and payment. Once you have completed and signed a Resident’s Permit application form, the proof of address and vehicle registration will be valid on our systems for three years.
Postal Applications
Postal applications prevent queuing and you are advised to submit your application in advance. Every effort will be made to deal with them speedily but you should allow 15 working days for your application to be processed. An envelope is enclosed with your application form.
Please note that only copies of documents should be sent, as the Council cannot accept responsibility for any documents sent through the post. You must also enclose payment with your application to cover the cost of the permit. Cheques should be made payable to “London Borough of Hackney”, and your cheque guarantee number must be detailed on the back of the cheque
For any permit application enquiries, please contact us on 020 8356 8877
Motorcycle and moped parking
Motorcycles and mopeds can be parked for free in Hackney. You do not need to purchase a permit or voucher to park one of these vehicles in Hackney’s controlled parking zones, but you must park:
- in a permit bay (where resident’s and business permits can be used to park);
- perpendicular to the kerb; and
- at one end of the bay, in a manner that would not prevent permit holders from parking in that bay.
