Suspensions and Dispensations

Hackney Council views the suspension of parking bays and dispensation waivers (yellow line waivers) as important tools in managing the traffic in the borough.

Parking Services will grant dispensations and suspensions on the basis that the desired request does not compromise traffic flow and the parking needs of residents, local businesses and visitors to the borough.

Suspensions

Customers seeking to clear or reserve a particular parking bay within a Controlled Parking Zone will need to apply for a suspension.

A suspension will temporarily prohibit the use of the suspended bay(s) by anyone other than the individual or organisation that has made the suspension application request. A single bay or area of bays may be suspended and suspended bays are indicated by yellow warning signs erected as near to the suspended location as possible.

In order to minimise the inconvenience caused to residents, it is the Councils aim to dispatch notification letters to residents 5 working days prior to the suspension start date and erect warning signs at least 3 days before the scheduled start date of suspended residents’ bays.

If you require the suspension of a parking place for building works or other activities, please download an application form for more information or use our contact details on the right.

Some of the reasons people chose to suspend parking bays in Hackney:

  • Removals
  • Statutory utilities work (gas, water or electricity)
  • Construction / Engineering /Vehicles access
  • Filming
  • Highway improvements
  • Local events

Suspensions are charged at a daily rate plus administration fee, terms and conditions are available on the application form available to download on the right.

Removal/relocations of vehicles parked in suspsended bays

It is a parking offence to park in a suspended bay and contravening vehicles may be issued a penalty charge notice (parking fine) or be relocated to our pound. If you suspect your vehicle has been removed or relocated from a suspended bay please see our contact us page and look for car pound/TRACE info.

Dispensation Waivers (temporary waivers)

A dispensation is a waiver issued to authorise a vehicle to park for a set period of time in contravention of the Traffic Management Order.

Dispensations are most commonly used to enable parking in contravention for specific exemptions such as; domestic removals, weddings and funerals and building works. You may apply for a waiver which can be obtained at our Parking Shop, or you can download an application form on the right.
