Controlled Parking Zones G (Brownswood) and G2 (Finsbury Park)

The next operational review will take place in 2009/2010

Parking Services reviewed Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) G, G1, and G2 in 2006 - the public consultation ran between 6th June and 29th July 2006.

We review every new CPZ after its first year of operation and then again every three years thereafter, as outlined in the Council’s Parking and Enforcement Plan (2005). These reviews are designed to help us make sure that each CPZ meets the needs of the local communities they serve.

Major design changes

Merging Zones G, G1 and G2...

The consultation included a proposal to merge all three zones into a combined zone to provide consistency for permit holders.

Although 61% of respondents across all 3 zones favoured the merger, residents of Zone G2 were firmly against the proposed change (62% against).

  • Zones G and G1 will be merged, while Zone G2 will remain separate.

Residents and businesses in the old Zone G and G1 will now be able to park anywhere in the new merged G/G1 Zone using a single permit.

Operational Hours

We asked you what your preferred hours of control are - for both a separate and a new combined CPZ. Based on your feedback,

  • Hours in the new combined Zone G/G1 will change to Monday to Friday, 8:30am–6:30pm.
  • Hours in Zone G2 will reduce to Monday to Saturday, 7:00am–6:00pm.

Match Day Scheme

We are aware that your area suffers from specific pressures during Arsenal Football Club home match days, as a result of visitors parking in your area and walking to the new Emirates Stadium.

We asked you whether you would like match day parking controls introduced - overall, 76% of respondents said yes.

  • A match day parking scheme will be introduced across the whole of Zones G, G1 and G2.

Boundary change for CPZ G and M

The existing boundary between Zones G and M currently runs behind properties on the south side of Stoke Newington Church Street.

Residents and businesses tell us that this makes parking diffiicult as they cannot use spaces in the adjacent side streets that are in a different CPZ. Visitors to nearby Clissold Park, as well as the local shops, mean that there are a lot of cars trying to park in this area.

  • The boundary between Zone G and M will be moved to the middle of Stoke Newington Church Street.

Residents and business on the south side of this street, between Lordship Park and Green Lanes, will now be able to apply for a Zone M permit with a greater choice of parking spaces.
