Controlled Parking Zones G (Brownswood) and G2 (Finsbury Park)
Parking Services reviewed Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) G, G1, and G2 in 2006 - the public consultation took place during June and July 2006 and changes were implemented in October 2006.
All parts of Zones G and G2 are in the Match Day Scheme - parking controls are extended on match days at the nearby Arsenal FC Emirates Stadium. Please go to the separate Match Day Scheme page for more information.
Major Design Changes
Zones G and G1 merge
The consultation included a proposal to merge all three ‘G’ zones into a combined CPZ to provide consistency for permit holders and to provide a wider area for parking.
Overall, 61% of respondents across all 3 ‘G’ zones favoured the merger. However, respondents in Zone G2 were firmly against the proposed change (62% against).
Zones G and G1 are now merged but Zone G2 remains separate.
Residents and businesses in the old Zone G and G1 will now be able to park anywhere in the new merged Zone G using a single permit.
Operational Hours
Operational hours are based on the most popular start and finish times provided during the public consultation. We asked about operational hours for both stand-alone CPZs and a new merged CPZ.
Zones G and G2 now operate as follows:
| Zone G (old G and G1) | Zone G2 |
| Monday - Friday 8:30am - 6:30pm | Monday - Saturday 7:00am - 6:00pm |
Boundary change for CPZ G and M
The existing boundary between Zones G and M currently runs behind properties on the south side of Stoke Newington Church Street.
With the old boundary, residents and businesses on the south side of Stoke Newington Church Street had experienced difficulty in finding parking spaces as adjacent side streets were in Zone M. Visitors to nearby Clissold Park, as well as the local shops, meant that there was a lot of competition for the few nearby Zone G parking spaces.
The boundary between Zone G and M now runs along the middle of Stoke Newington Church Street.
Residents and businesses on the south side of Stoke Newington Church Street, between the Lordship Park and Green Lanes, are now in Zone M.
Other design changes

Match Day Scheme
The ‘G’ zones had been suffering from specific parking pressures on match days as visitors parked in the area and walked to the new Emirates Stadium. Although further away from Hackney, the new venue has a much bigger capacity.
The Match Day Scheme is now active and extends parking controls on days when a home match is played at Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium. See the Match Day Scheme page for details.
