Review of Controlled Parking Zone J Consultation Results
The London Borough of Hackney last reviewed Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) J in 2008 - the public consultation took place between January and March 2008.
Major Design Changes
CPZ operational hours
Operational hours are based on the most popular start and finish times provided during the public consultation. Overall, respondents were happy with the existing hours so Zone J will continue to operate as follows:
| Zone J |
| Monday - Friday 8:30am - 6:30pm |
Parking bay allocation
As this CPZ had not been reviewed for a long period of time, we have reallocated many parking bays to reflect current needs and so improve your parking experience. We have also created new parking bays where it is safe to do so.
Other design changes
You can view more details of the minor changes to bay usage and parking layout at street level in the Council-approved final report and map (click on links on the right).
London Fields uncontrolled area
The recent Zone J review included a Stage 1 ‘in principle’ consultation with residents and businesses in the uncontrolled area east of London Fields to decide whether it should become part of the CPZ.
Parking Controls will be introduced in the uncontrolled area around London Fields.
The uncontrolled area will become part of CPZ J with the same hours of operation:
- The majority (66%) of on-street residents support parking controls (excluding housing estates with off-street parking); these road users are higher priority in our parking policy’s ‘hierarchy of parking need’ than commercial respondents
- This area is demonstrating high levels of parking stress, confirmed by our recent technical assessment. The majority of respondents (61%) have experienced difficulty parking here during the controlled hours, and 68% report that this is also the case for their visitors.
Before any changes are made, we will consult local residents and businesses on the proposed layout of parking bays and yellow lines so that public feedback can inform the final design; this will be the Stage 2 public consultation.
Residents and businesses in the uncontrolled London Fields area will be consulted on the design of the new parking controls in late March 2009.
Important Dates
Works to implement changes to the existing CPZ J have already started and are planned to finish mid-December 2008, subject to weather conditions.
The new changes will come into effect on 15 December 2008.
