Hackney Design Awards 2008

The 2008 Hackney Design Awards continues to facilitate high quality sustainable development. We encourage everyone to nominate a scheme that you feel represents good quality design and sustainable development in the borough's built environment. There is no limitation on the size and scale of the project.

We are now open to nominations! Deadline for all entries is 30 September 2008. Judging will take place in autumn 2008 and the Awards Ceremony held in early 2009.

How to Enter

  • Complete the tear off section on the nomination leaflet which can be picked up at libraries, public buildings and the Regeneration and Planning office at 263 Mare Street, London E8 3HT
  • Download the PDF Document Nomination Leaflet and post to the address above.
  • Email: designawards@hackney.gov.uk (see entry form details below)

What can be nominated?

  • Entries that have made a positive change to the borough
  • Been completed between 1 September 2006 – 31 August 2008

The following types of public or private schemes:

  • New buildings;
  • Alterations to existing buildings, eg. extensions, refurbishments, conversions and restorations;
  • High street or pedestrian areas;
  • Landscaped areas;
  • Public art;
  • Public furniture such as seating and railings;
  • Lighting schemes.

What is considered?

The Hackney Design Awards 2008 will identify and promote the very best examples of contemporary design in Hackney. Entries must show that they have considered one or more of the following:

  • Quality - high quality in terms of design, use of materials and construction
  • Visibility - makes a positive contribution to the surrounding area and is visible to the public
  • Innovation – a clear demonstration of innovation in their responses to complex design issues, as well as exploiting opportunities where possible
  • Sustainability – a clear demonstration the approach to design, construction, end-use and management has fully addressed environmental, social and economic impacts

What happens next?

On receipt of an entry:

  • We will log details of the entry
  • Applicants will be advised we have received the nomination
  • The owner, designer or architect will be contacted and advised of the nomination

Details you should include in your nomination entry are:

  • Address or location of scheme
  • Type (New building, Extension, Restoration/alteration, Public space, Streetscape, Landscape space, Other)
  • Ownership
  • Architect
  • Contractor
  • Photos included yes/no
  • Your contact details (Name, Address, Telephone, Email)
