Planning Policy
The Policy and Implementation team undertakes a variety of tasks including:
- Preparation of the Hackney Local Development Framework (previously the Hackney UDP)
- Planning Contributions (formally Section 106 agreements)
- Monitoring and provision of statistical planning information
In preparing plans, a vision of the future development of Hackney is created. Areas which will be destined for future residential, commercial, industrial and amenity use are defined in the plans. These plans are then implemented through approval or refusal of planning applications by the Development Control team.
Planning contributions describe the requirements or restrictions on a developer following the granting of planning permission. The team prepare guidance and monitor the implementation of these agreements.
The monitoring role enables interpretation of the patterns of development as a result of these plans. Statistics on land use and development are also provided to the Government and the GLA, with a priority on net housing gain to government in accordance with the Prime Minister’s key deliverables.
