Dalston Area Action Plan

The Adopted Phase 1 AAP

The Council adopted the Phase 1 AAP at its Cabinet Meeting held on the 23 November 2009 and the Council Meeting held on the 25 November 2009.

The Phase 1 AAP sets out planning and design policies for the area. It is a strategy for guiding development and attracting investment for the town centre. The Phase 1 AAP is based on comments and feedback from the two community consultation events in April and May 2008 and March until May 2009 (see below), and from close analysis and understanding of the area.

Consultation Report

On the 15th of May the Council completed a 10 week public consultation on the Draft Interim Dalston Area Action Plan (Phase 1) - Masterplan (Phase 1 AAP). This extensive consultation programme included: a number of well attended street stalls around the Borough; community members taking advantage of our 'meet the planner' sessions; on-going meetings with various stakeholders; and a series of targeted consultation events with older people, youger people, faith communities and various other groups.

The Strategic Delivery Team collated and reviewed all the comments received on the draft Phase 1 AAP. The ideas and proposals within the Phase 1 AAP were reviewed to incorporate community and stakeholder comments where appropriate.

Next Steps

Implementation of Phase 1 AAP

The Strategic Delivery Team is now busy implementing the Phase 1 AAP.  This involves bringing forward with key partners and stakeholders a series of projects and tasks identified within the Implementation Plan to regenerate Dalston Town Centre.  On-going consultation will be a part of the implementation of the Phase 1 AAP.

Towards a final Dalson Area Action Plan

When the overarching Core Strategy for Council is adopted, a Phase 2 Area Action Plan for Dalston will be prepared to reflect that adopted Core Strategy and reflect any changes in the town centre. This Phase 2 AAP will then be publicly consulted on, and amended in accordance with comments received.  The Phase 2 AAP will then proceed through a number of statutory stages before it is adopted by Cabinet as the final Dalston Area Action Plan.
