Lower Lea Valley (Hackney Wick) Supplementary Planning Guidance
Following a period of consultation, the Council adopted Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) for the Hackney Wick area in the Lower Lea Valley (July 2004). This guidance is a vital step in securing the sustainable regeneration of the area and protecting the interests of the people who live and work there. In essence, the SPG will shape the future look, feel and operation of the Hackney Wick area.
The SPG provided an up-to-date planning policy framework to support:
- the determination of the 2012 Olympics planning applications in September 2004;
- negotiations with the UDC for the Thames Gateway; and
- the development of an Opportunity Area Planning Framework for the Lower Lea Valley (OAPF).
The Mayor of London has adopted (January 2007) the OAPF, which will form Strategic Planning Guidance for the Lower Lea Valley establishing strategic principles and guidance on the preferred land use activities for the area, including employment, open space, transport corridors; retail activity, and family housing. For a copy of the document and further information on consultation refer to: www.london.gov.uk/mayor/planning/lower-lea-valley.jsp
Alongside the OAPF will be a Lower Lea Valley Regeneration Framework / Vision which will outline the aspirations of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and its partners for regeneration and change in the Lower Lea Valley. The Lower Lea Valley Vision will set out the core outputs of the Regeneration Framework according to a series of key themes.
