Pre-Application Service
You can obtain pre-application advice from Hackney Planning Service in three ways:
- Speak with the Duty Planner for free, verbal advice
- Request free written pre-application advice (only available for specific proposals - see below)
- Request the full pre-application service for a more comprehensive, written response (only available for specific proposals and fees payable, see below)

Pre-Application Charges
As of 1 April 2009 the Planning Service began charging for pre-application advice on proposals with five or more residential units and/or over 500m2 of non-residential floorspace.
The charges and timeframes are as follows:

| Householder and other minor proposals other than those listed above – free written advice only | FREE | 15 days | |
| Minor development proposals | 5 – 9 dwellings and/or 500-999m2 non-residential floorspace, telecoms or advert hoardings | £500 | 30 days |
| Major development proposals | 10 – 25 dwellings and/or 1000 - 2000 m2 non-residential floorspace | £1,000 | 30 days |
| Major development proposals | Over 25 dwellings and/or over 2000m2 non-residential floorspace | £2,000 | 30 days |
| Proposals on behalf of a Registered Social Landlords (RSL), Primary Care Trust (PCT), Learning Trust, Hackney Homes, or for Council – advice provided as appropriate to the proposal. | FREE | Dependent on type of proposal |
*Cheques should be made payable to London Borough of Hackney
