Knowing our workforce

Knowing our workforce is designed to bring together a range of useful information to enable managers to understand their workforce and compare it with other services.  This can provide valuable insight for managers in planning and designing future team structures, team development activities, recruitment and personal leadership styles.

We are committed to supporting and harnessing a diverse and modern workforce for the benefit of service users.  We are now in a position as a Council to refine the way we collect information about our workforce, analyse the information and make best use of our workforce data.

There are a wide range of initiatives to support a modern and diverse workforce including bringing in young people e.g. Apprenticeships, work experience. We have also started to introduce e-learning as a new tool for staff with different learning styles and home workers.

Staff survey

Ipsos MORI an independent research agency, carried out the 2011 Hackney Council staff survey in October and November.  The survey gave staff an opportunity to let us know their thoughts and opinions about their working life and their attitudes towards the Council as an employer.  The results of the Hackney Council Employee Survey 2011 are available in the full report.

Our workforce

We aim to have a modern and diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we serve across all grades. Following the Equalities Act 2010 we have refreshed our equalities information collection form and we will be improving the information we have on our workforce over the coming year.

Stonewall

As part of our work to promote rights for people who are lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) we are proud to be part of Stonewall's Diversity Champion Programme. The programme aims to promote the rights of LGB people in the workplace and service provision. Visit the LGBT page for more information.

Two ticks

The Council is committed to creating an environment which encourages disabled people to seek and maintain employment with us.

The Council has been awarded the Positive about Disability Two Ticks symbol. Job Centre Plus runs the scheme on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions. Visit the Two Ticks page for more information.
