Please call the Hackney Service Centre on 020 8356 2897 with as much information as possible about the problem, including a clear description of the location. The information provided will determine whether the problem is on a public highway, and the correct government body to contact.
If the problem is not on the public highway and is on private property, and the problem is a blockage, it is likely to be between the house and the mains sewer. In this case, the matter should be discussed with the water board and is the householder's responsibility to resolve.
If the problem is on a private road, the issue should be directed to the resident management company.
If the problem is with a down pipe on a house, or is a sanitary issue, then it is not the Council's responsibility.

My toilet or sink is blocked
The property owner is responsible for private sinks and toilets. If there is a blockage between the sink/toilet and the mains sewer please contact Thames Water. www.thameswater.co.uk
