Red routes
Red routes are the responsibility of Transport for London and can be identified by their red no-stopping lines on the highway and signs along the route. They work mainly by putting a stop to delays caused by illegal parking and stopping.
The red routes in Hackney are:
- Seven Sisters Road
- A10 - Great Cambridge Road
- Stamford Hill
- Stoke Newington High St
- Kingsland High Road
- Shoreditch High St
- A107 - Homerton High Street
Unlike yellow lines, single and double red lines ban all stopping, parking and loading. Double red lines apply at all times and single red lines usually apply during the working day.
There are limited exceptions to this general rule and they are indicated by signs where they apply.
Red route controls are rigorously enforced by the Police and their Traffic Wardens. They are not enforced by our Hackney Parking Attendants.
Red Routes use a package of measures to improve safe traffic flow. The most obvious of these measures are the red lines along the road edge which are a clear signal to drivers to say 'no stopping'.
Further information on red route signage and markings can be found at Transport for London.
Please note that Transport for London (TfL) have sole responsibility for highway issues on these roads within the borough.
If you would like to report a problem on one of these roads you can contact the TfL Street Faults Contact Centre on 0845 305 1234 or via www.streetfaults.tfl.gov.uk.
Please see the understanding parking restrictions page for information about where you can park in Hackney.
