Yellow lines (waiting and loading restrictions)
These are installed only where they are really needed and where they will work. They are installed to direct vehicles where they can stop, park or unload. There are always signs or time plates associated with each marking advising the motorist of its rules.
Some of the reasons restrictions are put in place are listed below:-
- Prevent obstructive and dangerous parking
- Assist in the general flow of traffic
- Improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists
- Improve visibility at junctions
- Improve access for emergency service/refuse vehicles
You can help us by identifying where and when the problem occurs. We will then be able to assess the extent of the problem.
Hackney Council receives requests for restrictions to be installed and removed and each one is carefully considered and its advantages and disadvantages are assessed. Waiting restrictions can help to solve some problems but are not always the answer as they can just move the problem elsewhere.The different needs of all road users need to be balanced. Each restriction must be defined by a Legal Traffic Management Order.
Please note that if you do not follow the rules associated with the signs and lines, you will be in contravention of the Legal Order. This may result in you receiving a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
