Household rubbish bins

The Council does not supply bins, wheelie bins or sacks to residents for general household rubbish.  Residents are responsible for providing their own bin, or for leaving waste out for collection in bin bags. Please see the household waste collection page for more details.

There are a small number of properties in Hackney who are on a wheelie bin round. These properties took part in a wheelie bin trial some years ago. Although the decision was taken not to extend the scheme borough wide, we continued the use of wheelie bins in the pilot area to avoid major disruption for residents. These residents are entitled to a replacement bin from the Council by calling the Hackney Wasteline.

Reducing your waste

We encourage everyone to cut down on rubbish in the first place - it helps save money and protects the environment. Find out more about waste prevention.

Recycling

You can help create a cleaner, greener, more sustainable Hackney by recycling more. We offer comprehensive recycling services and we encourage all residents to make the most of these. Find out more about recycling.
