Bulky waste collections
Hackney Council offers a free removal service for bulky items such as like fridges, cookers and furniture. This service is for residential properties only.
The Council will remove up to five items per collection and will make up to four collections per household each year. You can only have one collection of 5 items per day.
For certain items of furniture, we recommend that you use the free furniture re-use service run in partnership with Homestore. This allows you to donate unwanted items of furniture to families on low incomes to help them avoid getting into debt. Find out more about the furniture re-use project.
How to arrange your bulky waste collection
To arrange a collection, either complete the bulky waste collection online form or call the Hackney Wasteline on 020 8356 6688.

If you prefer, you can also arrange for them to be picked up by appointment.

Re-use your furniture, help low-income families
Old furniture is being given a new lease of life, thanks to the furniture re-use project funded by the council and run by Homestore. This offers low-income households a chance to furnish their homes without getting into debt.
In line with the council's waste prevention priority, re-use is better than recycling - if you think you have suitable items for reuse please visit the Furniture Reuse Project page to find out more. For more information and handy tips on reducing waste, please check out our waste prevention pages.
Large quantities of waste / commercial waste
For larger quantities of waste or commercial waste collections please call Hackney Commercial Waste Service on 020 8356 6683 or arrange for this to be collected by a private contractor.
