Recycling in Hackney
We offer comprehensive recycling services to residents. It is important that you make use of these services in order to help create a cleaner, greener, more sustainable Hackney.
For more information on our recycling services, please see the links to the left. You can also telephone 020 8356 6688 or email recycling@hackney.gov.uk.
Why recycle?
Recycling is quick and easy. It’s about making a simple choice between putting items in your bin or recycling them. As you recycle more, your rubbish will take up less space and it's also good for the community.

Recycling rate
Hackney's recycling rate is around 25%. You can help to increase recycling levels by making the best use of the services provided and reducing the amount of waste you throw away. Up to 60% of rubbish that ends up in an average household bin can be recycled.
Street level properties
All street level properties have a weekly Green Box (dry recyclables) and Blue Bin (food waste) collection. 16,000 street level properties have access to the Brown Bin service (garden waste).
Estates and high rise properties
All estates and high rise properties in Hackney are entitled to recycling facilities and are provided with communal recycling collection facilities. Download our guide to recycling on estates and high-rise properties (PDF, 1.2MB) for more information.
