Radio 1 Hackney Weekend 2012 June 23/24 -expressions of interest for catering concessions
Radio 1 Hackney Weekend 2012 is the largest event to ever take place in Hackney. With an all-star line-up, including international superstar Jay-Z and a whole host of others, this will be an unforgettable event for the 50,000 people who will be attending each day.
Taking place on Hackney Marshes over the weekend of 23 and 24 June 2012, the event is being delivered by BBC Radio 1 in partnership with Hackney Council. Central Catering Services have been awarded the tender for the provision of concessions at the event and 20% of the tender has been reserved for Hackney-based businesses. The Council is seeking expressions of interest from local traders and businesses who would be interested in this opportunity. A total of 10 pitches are available, with a combined frontage of no more than 76m.
As is usual for a major event like this, all traders will need to satisfy stringent criteria with regard to environmental health and food safety, as well as complying fully with the event specification. Interested parties should complete and return this form:
The following four documents are for information only at the moment and will only need to be completed and submitted by successful applicants. However, all applicants should familiarise themselves with the conditions laid out within the terms and conditions document provided by Central Catering Services and will need to assure us they are compliant with these as part of the application process.
- Guidance on providing food at events (Word, 412KB)
- Central Catering Services terms and conditions (PDF, 58KB)
- Food concessions event checklist (Excel, 620KB)
- Food premises registration of mobile or temporary premises (Word, 40KB)
Hackney Council needs to ensure that traders comply with its vision of the Hackney offer which is outlined below. Expressions of interest will be judged against these criteria: how closely you meet this vision; compliance with environmental health and food hygiene regulations; and experience of dealing with large volumes of customers at outdoor events. The Council is keen to see creative and colourful outlets and units and where possible, photos should be included as part of the expression of interest.
The fee for each pitch will be £3,500 + VAT. There will also be a charge for power on site which will be agreed between each trader and the power provider.
Vision for Hackney based concessions
Hackney is a vibrant, urban melting pot of cultures from around the world. As Time Out magazine has stated: "There are flavours to savour from its lip-smacking restaurants, not to mention world-class coffees". The BBC and Hackney Council want to ensure that the 100,000 concert-goers attending the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend get a taste of what the borough has to offer and that the Hackney-based concessions provide a showcase for the various tastes within the borough that will make customers return to Hackney for more. Traders should be vibrant, quirky but most of all be able to rustle up some sensational tastes over two days.
Expressions of interest
Expressions of interest setting out your offer, details of the type of the food on offer, a statement about compliance with environmental health and food safety requirments should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to Hackney at Games Time Activity Manager, Olympics Team, 2 Hillman Street, E8 1FB and should be received no later than 12 noon on Wednesday, 4 April.
