Coroners
What does a Coroner do?
The main duty of a Coroner is to enquire into sudden or unexplained deaths. This is usually done using a post-mortem examination, followed by an inquest if the cause of death is not natural.
In addition to this there, a Coroner is required to nvestigate deaths in certain circumstances - for example, the death of a person in custody, or a death resulting from a person's occupation.
For more information about the work of Coroners, please visit the Ministry of Justice website.
