Change of Circumstances
You need to tell us if your circumstances change
If you are moving home please see the section on moving home.
In addition to telling us when you have moved home, you will also need to notify us if your circumstances have change. There are certain changes that you are, by law, required to tell us, for example, if you are in receipt of a discount and that discount should no longer apply. In circumstances such as this, you could be liable for a penalty if you fail to tell us.
Other changes, which should be reported, as they may affect the amount of tax you have to pay include:
- Someone moving out of your property
- Someone moving in to your property
- Someone in your home reaches the age of 18 years
- Someone in your home starts or stops being disregarded (see Council Tax Discounts)
If your circumstances change which you think may affect the amount you have to pay, you can download a
Change in Circumstances Form. Complete the relevant part of the form and send it to the Council Tax office.
Alternatively, you can telephone the Council Tax office and report your change in circumstances – please can you make sure you have all the information with you when telephoning.
