Evidence To Support Your Claim

The council sets the minimum documentary evidence we need to assess a claim based on guidance from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

Unfortunately not everyone who applies for benefit does so honestly. The minimum documentary evidence criteria are designed to remove fraud and error from the system. This means those entitled to benefit get paid the correct amount and anyone trying to commit fraud is identified and stopped.

The claim form lists the evidence you need to supply. We can only accept original documents; we cannot accept photocopies. If you cannot provide the documents asked for, you need to tell us why. We will let you know what to do next.

If we require further evidence we will write to you and tell you what is missing. We will allow you reasonable time to supply the evidence. Your claim will not be processed until we get all the information we need.
