Interpretation and Translation
About us
We offer a wide range of languages reflecting the constantly changing demographic make-up of Hackney. More than 80 interpreters speaking in their mother tongue are recruited from the local community.
NB The service is only available to members of the public via a Council Department referral.
How we can help
Interpretation
Whatever service you provide, you may deal with people whose first language is not English.
You need to get your message across effectively and clearly. This is where we can help.
We offer interpreters who are selected on their linguistic ability, have a trained background and are highly experienced. Our process ensures that our interpreters are committed to confidentiality, impartiality and equal opportunities. All our interpreters have signed up to our code of conduct.
You can book interpreters in advance either for a one-off session or as a block booking. We also provide interpreters at very short notice should the need arise.
We will interpret in a variety of settings, for example:
- Housing applications
- Council tax enquiries
- Hospital meetings and consultations
- Welfare rights services
- Parent / teacher interviews
- GP appointments
- Social Services Meetings
- Open Consultations meetings
Translation
We deal with translation and typesetting in almost any language you require. From letters to documents, from posters to leaflets we supply fast and accurate translations
Sign Language Interpreting Services
Under the Disability Discrimination Act, service providers must ensure that deaf people have equal access to information and services. This may mean providing appropriate communication support.
We can provide you with an interpreter if the Deaf Service User you are dealing with communicates using:
- British Sign Language (BSL)
- Sign Supported English (SSE)
- Deaf/Blind
- Lipspeaker (Hard of Hearing)
