PAON and SAON structures
In addition to the above, PAONs and SAONs have their own internal, sub-field structure. The first 10 characters are reserved for the street number (or flat number in the case of SAONs) of a building where one exists. This includes numbered ranges as well as suffixed numbers. The rest of the field from position 11 onwards is given over to a building name or description where one exists.
If there were a property on a street called 'The Glens' that also had a numbered range on the street of 12A to 14B then the PAON would be as follows:
| 1 | 2 | A | 1 | 4 | B | T | H | E | G | L | E | N | S |
Note that the fifth and tenth position are always reserved for building number suffixes(ie A, B, C etc) if one exists and the building numbers are right justified.
