Official Opening of the Mount Community Hall
The Speaker of Hackney, Cllr Ian Rathbone, opened a new venue at The Mount, in Mount Pleasant Lane, on Saturday 2 August.
He said: “This is a great example of what can be achieved when Hackney residents work together with the Council and housing associations to provide much needed communal facilities.
“The Mount’s new hall will provide a valuable hub for the community, and I look forward to visiting again to see some of the activities and events.”
He also thanked members of The Mount’s Tenants and Residents Association for their work in seeing through their application for the new community hall from housing association Mosaic.
The event was celebrated with a family fun day.

Hackney Homes Fun Days in August
The Speaker was also pleased to take part in various Hackney Homes Fun Days organised on estates across the borough during August. He got to judge the best painted T-shirt, local talent contests and met a lot of residents. He was impressed with the excellent organisation of Tracey Dunne and her team and was glad to see Hackney Homes chief executive Charlotte Graves joining in along the way, along with Hackney Homes board chair Rupert Tyson and board member David Drake.
The Speaker said that he hoped the days would give a real boost to the membership of TRAs around the borough, and in people taking part in the communal life of their estates and surrounding areas.
