Turkish Education & Development Association Annual Adult Learner's Certificate Day
On 3 October, the Speaker attended, along with Councillors Krishna and Unluer, the Turkish Education and Development Association (TEDA) at the Aziziye Mosque Conference Hall in Stoke Newington, for Adult Learners Certificate day. TEDA was set up in 2004 to cater for the needs of the under-achieving Turkish community, providing courses in ESOL and ICT for women from ethnic minority groups.
Clean Up Clapton
On Thursday, 23 October the Speaker attended the ‘Clean Up Clapton’ day led by Councillor Michael Desmond. They were accompanied by Councillors Oguzkanli and Buitekant, local police and some B6 College students dressed as various items of rubbish. The Speaker was impressed by the high standard of work of Northwold school students, who designed a poster for the project.
Street Leaders Reception
Also on 23 October a reception was held in the Town Hall to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Councils’ Street Leaders scheme. The scheme ensures that the borough’s streets are among the cleanest in London and Hackney is a Cleaner, Greener and Safer place to live and work.
The Speaker hosted this reception to allow some of the local volunteers who have been actively involved in the scheme to come together and celebrate their achievements.

Civic Reception for the PETRA’s 25th Anniversary
The Pembury Estate Tenants and Residents Association (PETRA) celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year. The association, one of the longest standing in the borough, has achieved a great deal since its conception including representing residents in the stock transfer from Hackney Council to the Peabody Trust in 1999.
The Speaker hosted a reception on Thursday, 30 October in the Speaker’s Parlour to celebrate the achievements of both past and present members.
