The Gambling Act 2005
Hackney Council are a Licensing Authority under the Gambling Act 2005 and are responsible for issuing gambling premises licences and a range of permits. Premises such as the following are required to gain permission from the Council -
- Bingo halls
- Betting premises, such bookmakers and race tracks for horse or dog racing
- Adult gaming centres
- Family entertainment centres
Operating licences and personal licences are issued by the Gambling Commission. The Commission are also responsible for regulating online gambling.
Hackney's policy sets out the principles to be applied in determining applications under the Act. The Policy is based on the licensing objectives -
- To prevent gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime;
- To ensure that gambling is carried out in a fair and open way;
- To protect children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
