Hackney drivers encouraged to give up their cars

During European Mobility Week (16-22 Sept), the Council launched its ‘Give Up Your Car’ campaign. As part of the campaign, drivers in Hackney were offered incentives by the Council and its car club provider Streetcar to give up their cars and opt for greener forms of transport.

The campaign was very successful with the Council encouraging more people living, working and studying in the borough to think about alternative options to car ownership.

Beth Walton of Hackney Downs was the lucky winner of the ‘Give Up Your Car’ competition. Her prize for winning the competition included:

• An annual travel card for zones one to two;
• Membership of Streetcar for a year;
• £200 Streetcar driving credit; and
• £200 bike voucher.

Those who did not win the competition but who have followed through on their pledge to give up their cars were rewarded with £25 Streetcar driving credit.
