Greener Living
We all need to live, work, travel and shop. However, all these things can be done in a more environmentally friendly and socially responsible way.
As a planet, and as individuals, we consume far too much. Not only is this unsustainable, but contributes to environmental damage as well.
However, simple choices and changes can help to make a big difference. Do your bit and:
Buy Local
Check the country of origin on products bought in supermarkets, or better still, shop at a local farmers market, which helps cut down on fuel use from transportation and may reduce packaging.
Buy Organic
Organic food and drink is produced without toxic chemicals and artificial fertilizers.
Shop Greener
Buy less, or only what you need. Visit libraries instead of buying books. Re-use items instead of throwing them away, or buy vintage and antique. If you have a garden, grow your own food and flowers. Re-use your plastic carrier bags, or use a cloth bag that lasts longer.
Waste Not, Want Not
Each year 6.7 million tonnes of food is thrown out. Half is perfectly edible and in a lifetime its estimated that each of us wastes up to £24,000 worth of food. Don’t buy more than you need, and use up what you have.
Alter your Home
Your home is the best place to start becoming greener. See our ‘Top Ten Tips’ page for ideas on how to save energy – and money – in your home.
